It was established in response to the university’s growing need to enhance its research infrastructure and integrate modern technologies into the academic and developmental landscape. The unit is committed to promoting a strong research culture in the fields of information and communication technology by supporting high-impact research projects, fostering a comprehensive research environment, and encouraging academic staff to engage in paths of scientific and intellectual innovation. Furthermore, it strives to build strategic partnerships with both local and international institutions to localize technology and contribute to sustainable development. The unit undertakes various responsibilities, including support for applied research, data analysis, software development, participation in digital policy-making, and providing scientific consultations in related areas. These roles position the unit as a central pillar in advancing the university’s vision of excellence and leadership. Mission Information technology is a key enabler of sustainable development, providing effective solutions to major global challenges. The ICT Research Unit at the Electronic Computing Center, University of Mosul, plays an active role in strengthening this field by supporting collaborative research, improving research productivity in the scientific, technological, and engineering domains, and leveraging these efforts through the publication of high-quality scientific research. Vision We aspire to play a vital role in enabling the university to fulfill its vision of ranking among the world’s leading institutions. The ICT Research Unit aims to achieve this by carrying out its scientific mandate and delivering the outputs of its strategic research plan. The unit seeks to provide researchers—especially full-time ones—with the appropriate tools and a supportive scientific environment, while also leveraging the vast data resources available at the Computing Center as a rich source for scholarly publishing. Objectives The unit’s core mission is to advance scientific research and knowledge by building a qualified academic team capable of fostering a productive research environment and opening up new interdisciplinary research avenues. Conduct high-quality, competitive basic research in science, technology, and engineering, with international relevance. Promote collaborative research with industrial, governmental, community, and international partners. Foster a research culture rooted in shared responsibility, ethical conduct, and academic integrity. Identify effective mechanisms to encourage researchers and innovators to participate in collaborative, team-based research projects. Enhance group research performance among faculty and students by supporting original and innovative studies that enrich specialized knowledge and serve society. Increase the proportion of externally funded scientific projects. Strengthen the research ecosystem by adopting systematic scientific approaches that promote effective collaborative work. Improve administrative processes by analyzing system-generated data to develop targeted solutions within the Computing Center.
