Provide students with basic information that includes common, important or emergency surgical conditions. Enabling students to identify the means used to detect cancer at an early stage. Developing the student’s ability to develop his clinical skills, surgical ethical principles and Medical Communication Skills with Patients. Mission At the end of the training curriculum, the student is able to: Identify the basic theoretical and practical rules of general surgery material and its clinical branches, and reach to a familiar formula in how to diagnose and deal with common or incoming surgical conditions of the surgical consultative clinic and its branches. Description of surgical anatomy for surgically important cases. Description of the pathological mechanism, clinical symptoms, complications, and ways of diagnosis and effective treatment of common surgical cases. It will provide students with many opportunities to discuss important surgical problems with the teaching staff and in small groups. Know the behavioral and ethical rules of surgery practice in terms of how to deal with patients, medical documentation and methods of preparing patients before performing major operations. Explanation of at-risk groups and recent means of early detection of cancer. Recognize the basic principles of surgical operations with a brief explanation of important and common surgeries. Know the basic principles for preparing patients before operations and the method of convalescence after operations. Including post-operative pain treatment Goals At the end of the training curriculum, the student is able to: Follow the necessary rules in how to communicate and interact between the student and the patient. View the patient’s health record in order to properly understand the medical condition of the disease. Identifying and applying the appropriate method for taking, documenting and providing a good clinical history. Recognize and apply the basic rules for examining surgical cases, taking into account the behaviors and privacy of the patient. Performing clinical examination performance related to common and emergencies cases in a practical way. Identifying the most important clinical manifestations of surgical diseases, including surgical emergencies. Explaining the symptoms of surgical conditions anatomically and clinically in terms of functional and diagnostic importance. Knowing and analyzing of common surgical cases. Selection and distinction of the necessary preliminary examinations required by the surgical condition. Compare the results of clinical examinations with the results of laboratory tests to reach the diagnosis of surgical cases and in a correct academic way. Putting the differential diagnosis of the common disease and what is the proposed surgical treatment. Identifying the common complications of cases or surgical operations and put a mechanism for treating and preventing their occurrence. Knowing the principles and methods of surgical sterilization and the correct treatment methods for surgical infusion. Identifying first aid measures and initial treatment for the wounded and those suffering from acute surgical diseases. About the department of Surgery The department of surgery was established in the College of Medicine in 1962 and at that time had only three surgeons. Over the years, the surgical department was able to develop itself, with more than thirty-four lecturer representing various specialties in surgery (General surgery, urology, orthopedic, neurosurgery, ENT, ophthalmology, burns and reconstructive surgery, pediatric surgery, resuscitation and intensive care, emergency medicine and accidents).
