It is responsible for teaching general and systemic pathology to third-year students; poultry diseases and special pathology (pathological anatomy) to fourth-year students; and veterinary practice, fish diseases, forensic veterinary medicine, and professional ethics to fifth-year students. The department also offers postgraduate programs (Master’s and PhD) in veterinary pathology and poultry diseases. Vision: Excellence and innovation in the field of veterinary medicine according to international standards. Leadership in veterinary education and scientific research to ensure animal health and develop animal resources within a cleaner environment. Mission: The department’s mission is to teach fundamental concepts in pathology to third-year students, poultry diseases to fourth-year students, and veterinary practice, fish diseases, pathological anatomy, forensic medicine, and professional ethics to fifth-year students. The mission also includes teaching postgraduate students to obtain PhD and Master’s degrees in veterinary pathology and poultry diseases, in addition to teaching subjects relevant to the department’s specialization to postgraduate students in other scientific branches. The department is also committed to continuously updating and improving course content and instruction quality, providing up-to-date textbooks, scientific journals, and laboratory equipment. Objectives: Prepare specialized scientific staff with a general background in diagnosing veterinary diseases, including poultry and fish diseases. Provide scientific consultation to animal breeders, poultry farm owners, and fish farming operators. Organize training courses and workshops to refresh knowledge for veterinary graduates. Conduct field seminars to discuss diseases that affect animal resources, in coordination with agricultural and veterinary departments. Participate in the annual field practice organized by the University of Mosul, offering services and consultations to animal, poultry, and fish breeders. Enhance the academic level of undergraduate students by updating course content. Advance postgraduate studies by updating curricula and improving the quality of specialized scientific research to meet societal needs.
