At the beginning of the academic year 1979-1980, it became independent under the name of Agricultural Economics. In 1998, it was transferred with the Department of Agricultural Guidance and Agricultural Enablement to the University of Mosul. Its beginnings were difficult due to the lack of teaching staff and the lack of high academic titles. After 2003, the department’s staff gradually integrated until it reached twenty-eight teachers. The department grants a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a doctorate, in addition to its role in dealing with the directorates of agriculture and their divisions in Nineveh Governorate with the aim of developing solutions and treatments that hinder the progress of the agricultural process therein. The vision of the department’s program: “The Department of Agricultural Economics seeks to develop agricultural economic concepts and achieve sustainable agricultural development through scientific research and practical applications, contributing to enhancing food security and achieving comprehensive economic development for the local and regional community” The mission of the department’s program: The Department of Agricultural Economics seeks to provide students with the economic knowledge and skills necessary to analyze and apply economic principles in the agricultural sector. This is achieved through distinguished educational programs and advanced scientific research, which contributes to resolving contemporary agricultural economic issues and promoting agricultural sustainability at all levels” Objectives of the department’s program: To qualify specialized, trained, and scientifically competent academic cadres in the field of agricultural economics, capable of meeting the challenges of the profession and competing with their peers in serving the community and meeting the needs of the labor market. To manage and utilize resources and address problems in agricultural projects efficiently and effectively in the field of agricultural economics within the framework of preserving natural resources, biodiversity, and sustainable development. To analyze and evaluate agricultural business problems and administrative decisions using business software. To possess the skills required to manage various types of agricultural businesses. To be able to understand and apply advanced production technologies in agriculture and agro-industrial activities. To be able to understand the main tools for analyzing and improving the quality of agricultural and agro-industrial products. To be able to formulate agricultural marketing plans and strategies for both general goods and specialized products.
