The workshop was delivered by: Eng. Basma Mohammed Nadhir / College of Political Science Eng. Najwan Hani Mahmoud / College of Political Science Assist. Lect. Sara Muwaffaq Abdulaziz / College of Petroleum and Mining Engineering The workshop aimed to shed light on the dual nature of artificial intelligence. It first addressed its role as a tool for advancement, contributing to the promotion of human rights in areas such as education, healthcare, and access to information. It also examined its potential risks as a tool of violation, which may threaten privacy, reinforce bias, and expand surveillance. The workshop further discussed the concepts of governance and accountability, highlighting the importance of laws, regulations, and institutions in regulating the use of AI technologies and ensuring they are directed toward serving humanity while safeguarding human rights. The workshop concluded with a set of practical recommendations emphasizing the need to adopt an ethical framework for the use of artificial intelligence—one that balances technological advancement with respect for human dignity, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 16.
